Robert “Bob” J. Lewis Jr., age 88, of Montrose, passed away on October 24, 2019 at his home. He was the devoted husband of Beverly D. Lewis, caring for her until she predeceased him on March 1, 2018.
Born in New York City on April 8, 1931, he was the son of the late Robert J. Lewis and Mary Lewis. He graduated from Hendrick Hudson High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Navy and played for their basketball team during his enlistment.
Robert married Beverly D. Haight of Montrose, NY on January 21, 1956, with whom he cherished dancing to Big Band music.
Robert worked for many years at IBM and was a member of the Local 21 Steamfitters & Plumbers Association, as well as the Chairman of Cooperative Charting for Power Squadron. He was a lifetime member of Buchanan Fire Department. Having a life-long passion for boating, Robert was Commodore of Peekskill Yacht Club, and Co-founder of Hudson Valley Boat & Yacht Club Association. He and his family enjoyed boating on the Hudson and along the Eastern Coast.
Robert is survived by his sons, Farrell Lewis and wife Gerri of Appleton, WI; Robert Lewis of Verplanck, NY and Fiance’ Carol Lynch; his daughters, Diane Nathan of Gloucester, VA; April Haight and husband Eric of Montrose, NY; and Holly Kouvo and husband Steve of Stow, MA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Erin, Matthew, Amber, Merisa, and Jessica; and great-grandchildren, Fern, Talen, Jace, Robbie, and Elizabeth. In addition to his parents and wife Beverly, Robert is predeceased by his sisters Gladys Golden and Ethel Yarema.
Friends and family will gather to honor and remember Robert on Sunday, October 27, 2019 from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm – 8pm, at Curry & Giordano Funeral Home, 313 North James Street, Peekskill, NY. Funeral Mass will be on Monday, October 28, 2019 at 10am at St. Patrick’s church, 241 11th Street, Verplanck followed by burial at St. Patrick’s Cemetary on Broadway Street, Verplanck.
