Obituary for Priscilla E. Lewis (Mitchell)

Print
After a lifetime of touching others, Priscilla Elizabeth Lewis was called home on Friday, November 9, 2018.
Priscilla was born on August 16, 1939 in Norfolk, Virginia to Rufus and Oleavie Mitchell. She married Lawrence Lewis, Sr. in 1957 and was preceded by him in death in 2011.
Priscilla was a retired Certified Nurse Assistant who worked for over 30 years at Treetops Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Mohegan Lake, New York. She was an active member of the Peekskill Senior Club and was an avid quilter and gardener. She was also a member of Christ Community Church in Peekskill, New York.
Priscilla is perhaps best known for being the strong matriarch of her very large family. She cared tirelessly not only for her own family, but also nurtured her extended family and friends. She opened her home to everyone, showing them warmth, compassion and grace. If you were in Priscilla’s home, you were family and you were loved. Her kitchen was the heart of her home and through her food she fed more than bodies; she fed souls. And during the holidays, Priscilla’s household was always magical.
Priscilla poured all of herself into her children. They wanted for nothing, and always knew they came first. She worked hard her whole life to raise her ten children, as well as many of her grandchildren, who grew up to become living testaments of her perseverance, faith and kindness. They will carry her legacy forward and keep her spirit alive for generations to come.
Priscilla is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and brothers James Ruth, David and Melvin.
Priscilla is survived and will be remembered by her sisters, Leavie Ann Haynes and Elnora Marshall and brother John Thomas Mitchell. She is also survived by ten children: Ronnie Johnson (Cathy), Valerie Lewis, Lawrence Lewis, Jr. (Bobbi), Laura Ritter (Michael Sr.), Minnie Jamison (Isaac), Jackie Parks (Lamont), Jeffrey Lewis (Angela), Mark Lewis (Shirley), Benjamin Lewis (Heidi) and Cherie Beach (Cory) in addition to her twenty-four grandchildren and host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews
