Obituary for Vidella Reid (Travis)

Print
Vidella Travis Reid, affectionally known as “Vi”, was the eldest of seven children born to the late Annabell Johnson Travis and Jacob B. Travis in Philadelphia, PA on September 1, 1934. She was predeceased by one son, Nathaniel Holliman, and five siblings.
Vi was educated in the Philadelphia public school system and graduated from Overbrook High School. After graduating, she followed her mother to Peekskill, NY in 1953. She held several jobs until obtaining employment at Westledge Nursing Home, where she was employed for over 40 years. During that time, Vi also managed several laundromats in the city until she retired.
Vidella accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Peekskill, where she served on the Usher Board and other ministries for more than 50 years.

She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Charles Reid on December 19, 1987.

In 2007, Vi relocated to Mt. Holly, North Carolina to live with her son Jerry and his wife Linda. Her daughter-in-law lovingly served as Vidella’s caretaker during her illness.
Vi knew so many people and was loved by all. She had a big heart for children, calling them “little people”. She also has a large extended family and many friends.

Vidella leaves to cherish her precious memories: five children - Roxanne Travis Sykes (Thomas), Jerome ‘Jerry’ Holliman (Linda), Arlene McIver, Rodney Holliman and Dora Holliman; 18 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grand, one sister – Helen Travis Barrett; two special ladies who she took as her daughters – Deborah ‘Penny’ Dunn and Linda Holliman; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
